Donna Kay: three names, one family

A marriage index joins the names. Family records connect Donna to Dan and Vera, to Michael, and to Teena and Eric’s family.

THE CONNECTED FAMILY

Two branches through Dan.

Recorded links: E126 and E133; marriage and Gettys context: E128, E129, E134. Independent birth documentation remains open.

The branch that brings her home

Donna belongs beside the familiar Wood and Darsey story. The preserved family tree records Dan Dale Darsey as her father, and the supplied family identification names Vera Mae Berry or Beery as her mother. Dan and Nova’s daughter Faustine Gail “Teena” Darsey is Eric’s mother. On these recorded paths, Donna is Teena’s paternal half sister and Eric’s maternal half-aunt. These are family-tree relationships; an independent birth record is still needed.

Evidence: E126, E133

A birthday to document

The family identification and preserved Geni export give 17 February 1945 in Houston, Harris County, Texas. Their agreement preserves an inherited birthday and birthplace, rather than independently proving them. The 1968 marriage index gives Donna’s age as 23, consistent with that birthday but unable to establish its exact day or city. No attributable school record or confirmed portrait was recovered.

Evidence: E126, E128, E133

Dan and Vera: the early record

The published opinion in Darsey v. Darsey, decided 25 July 1946, names Dan Dale and Vera Mae Darsey. It reports their 27 May 1944 Colorado marriage, wartime service and a divorce and custody judgment in Vera’s favor. The roughly one-year-old child is unnamed: the chronology strongly fits Donna, but the opinion does not identify her or supply her birthday. The appeal date is not the divorce date. The inherited tree’s 28 March 1946 Matador divorce still needs reconciliation with the Harris County proceedings.

Evidence: E127, E133

Where the Gettys name enters

Harold V. “Red” Gettys’s published obituary reports his marriage to Vera Mae Berry on 14 May 1949. It later calls Donna Kay Farr his daughter and names her husband Michael. This provides family context for the Gettys name in Donna’s marriage entry. It does not establish a legal adoption or make Harold her biological father. Vera is reported to have died in 1998 and Harold on 18 October 2004; these are obituary-reported details.

Evidence: E129

The marriage that joins the names

Texas’s official index lists Michael Henry Farr, 24, and GETTYS DONNA KAY DARSEY, 23, married on 29 June 1968 in Harris County, state file 055417. The county index supplies the matching file 359301: the license was issued on 26 June, the marriage is dated 29 June, and its status is “License Returned.” The unusual full name, matching age and Gettys family notices make the identification of Donna Darsey with Donna Farr very strong. The two indexes describe the same event; they are not two marriages or independent witnesses. The original application and license images remain unread.

Evidence: E128, E131, E134

The family around Donna and Michael

Albert Pike Farr Jr.’s February 2004 notice names Mike and Donna Kay Farr, describes Mike as a Houston physician and includes Harold Gettys among honorary pallbearers. Harold’s October notice names Donna and Michael, grandchildren Travis Farr and Kathryn McGuire, Kathryn’s husband Jason, and great-granddaughter Maya. Those descendant names remain the obituary’s family attribution: exact parent links and independent birth evidence have not been established, so they are not arranged here into a proved descendant tree. A separate medical-directory profile has not been conclusively linked to Donna’s husband.

Evidence: E129, E130

A possible public life in education and community

Houston organizations preserve a promising public trail. Young Audiences of Houston lists Donna Kay Farr as a Community Leader on its education committee. The June 2017 Meyerlander Monthly lists that name on the 2017–2018 Grounds and Landscape committee. These single-name listings are plausible matches, not independently linked by parents or birthday. They do not establish Donna’s occupation, attendance at a particular event, continued tenure or present status.

Evidence: E132, E139

Support for students and neighbors

UT Austin’s scholarship catalog names the Michael and Donna Kay Farr Scholarship for Texas students with financial need, with a preference for Natural Sciences. Its 2021–2022 budget separately names the Michael and Donna Kay Farr Endowed Excellence Fund for the Freshman Research Initiative. Wesley Community Center’s 2023 report thanks Donna Kay and Michael Farr among donors. The paired names strengthen the possible association with this family, but these sources do not supply a birth or parent link. They establish neither alumni status nor a career, board position, personal gift total or wealth. The scholarship and research fund are not assumed to be the same endowment.

Evidence: E137, E138, E140

The latest strong family notice: September 2025

David Gelmers’s April 2022 funeral-home notice names Mike Farr and wife Donna Kay of Houston. Blanche Gettys Fraser’s obituary, reporting her death on 23 September 2025, identifies her late brother Harold V. “Red” Gettys and surviving niece Donna K. Farr with husband Michael. The recognizable relatives and paired spouse make this a strong family match. It is the latest dated strong identification obtained. It supports survival as reported in September 2025; it does not verify Donna’s or Michael’s status afterward.

Evidence: E135, E136

What the next record could settle

The most precise next target is Harris County marriage file 359301: application film 440190893 and license film 440190894. The county index was read, but the application link was disabled and the license viewer required a registered login; no scan was obtained. A matched birth record and 1950 household could test the inherited birth and childhood details. Adoption, schooling, Donna’s own occupation, exact descendant relationships and her status after September 2025 remain open. The different Donna Kay Farr Sandstrom, born in 1936 to different parents, is excluded. No face or biography from an insufficient same-name match has been assigned to Donna.
