A BOUNDED SEARCH

Looking for Barbe’s missing estate

The surviving record sequence helps frame a life without manufacturing an exact date.

Alive in 1747; deceased before July 1748

A September 22, 1747 baptism names Marie Barbe Ackermin, wife of Toutcheck, as godmother. Correlated with the July 2, 1748 marriage abstract calling her later husband a widower, this narrows the probable death interval. It supplies no exact death day or newly found burial. Her relationship to elder Louis remains unproved.

What the searches mean

No matching estate or guardianship was identified in the checked calendar sequence and bounded electronic searches. Sparse survival, difficult script and OCR gaps prevent a conclusion that no such record ever existed.

The next documents

Estate inventories, minors’ settlements and certified extracts in later court files may be more useful than repeating broad surname searches. Institutional locators distinguish St. Charles originals from other colonial collections.
