ITALY TO NEW JERSEY

Following the Minero clues

Original 1950 households add explicit family links, another son and an identity question. The Italian hometown and voyage remain open.

The recorded branch

Robin’s inherited line runs through Edward John Becker Sr. and Minerva Elsa Minero to Ilario Minero and Desolina Drago. The family framework comes from the supplied export.

Evidence:

A town to test

Another user tree supplies a different birth date and a place-name plausibly read as Mezzana Mortigliengo. The municipality is real; that does not establish Ilario’s birthplace. The conflicting claims remain retrieval leads.

Evidence:

Find a record naming the place

A matched naturalization or draft record can test the birthplace before a passenger list is assigned. No ship, companions or independently verified hometown has been established, and a possible November 1910 arrival remains inherited.

Evidence:

New: an official death-index image

The 1955 New Jersey index, G–M PDF page 296, lists Ilario Minero and John Minero under the same state file 24401, June 1955. Death code 09301 maps to Jersey City; residence 09406 to North Bergen, both Hudson County, using the historical key’s first four digits. This is an index image, not the certificate. [RB.MINERO.DEATH1955; RB.NJ.LOCALITYCODES]

Evidence:

A strong candidate, with identity still to confirm

Name, month and locality fit Ilario well, but the index gives no age, spouse, parents or birthplace. It supports June 1955, not the tree’s exact June 11 date. The matching John entry suggests a cross-reference to one certificate; an alias is not yet proved. Keep the separately recorded son John Louis Minero distinct. The Italian birthplace remains unresolved.

Evidence:

The next exact record: 1955, file 24401

Retrieve this certificate under both Ilario and John Minero; examine spouse, parents, birthplace, informant and exact date. Current New Jersey guidance assigns deaths from 1951 onward to Vital Statistics, while State Archives copies end in 1950. Confirm the applicable request route before ordering. The Ancestry draft suggestion opened only a collection page, not a matched card; its birth details remain tree claims.

Evidence:

New: three generations under one roof

On April 20, 1950, Ilario and Desolina Minero shared a North Bergen, New Jersey home with their son Louis F., daughter Minerva, son-in-law Edward T. Becker and grandson Edward J. The census writer crossed out the Becker family’s initial Head, Wife and Son labels and replaced them with their relationships to Ilario. The explicit daughter, son-in-law and grandson entries make this a very strong match to Robin’s recorded paternal family. Edward J., Robin’s recorded father, was fourteen.

Evidence: E154

New: keep Louis and John distinct

Louis F. is explicitly called Ilario’s son, but he is absent from the imported family list. His age suggests a birth around 1909–1910 in Italy; it supplies no exact birthday or town. A separate 1950 Union City page records John Minero, thirty-four and New Jersey-born, with Clara and four matching children: David, Lana, Adriane and Lois. John packed elevators for a manufacturer. These are best treated as two distinct men. The Union City page does not name John’s parents; the imported claim that John was Italy-born in 1940 still needs its exact original page. No tree profile has been added, split or renamed.

Evidence: E154, E155

New: a probable jewelry business

Joseph E. Minero, forty-three and Italy-born, appears with Viola S. at 150 Western Avenue in Jersey City. He was a proprietor in jewelry manufacturing, reporting sixty hours of work. Wife, age and locality make him a strong working match to the recorded Eligio Joseph Minero and Viola family. The page does not supply Eligio or name his parents, so the identification remains probable. No earnings amount was obtained.

Evidence: E156

A family-held card supplies the day and an age

Ilario’s memorial card records June 11, 1955, age 75, and Leber Funeral Home in Union City. It strongly matches Robin’s recorded great-grandfather and conflicts with the inherited February 1879 birth. The later 1879 birthday candidate remains unproved. The new memorial-card story shows the original photograph and separates the three additional named people from established relatives.

Evidence:

The obituary names Louis and John separately

Ilario’s June 13, 1955 Jersey Journal notice names wife Desolina, née Drago, and four children: Joseph, Louis, Minerva and John. This explicitly supports keeping Louis and John separate, strengthening the earlier census distinction. It does not by itself identify Louis as the man on the 1990 Louis F. memorial card. “In his 76th year” means 75 completed years, consistent with the card; an exact birthday is not established.
