A strong family match
Florence’s 2012 obituary names daughters Carole and Jerrilyn Becker and grandchildren David and Robin. Government death-index data records her 28 June 1917 Irvington birth and 19 May 2012 death. These indexes are not full certificates.
Evidence:
A marriage and a name detail
The original 1939 brides’ index pairs Florence Schubiger with John J Swantek. The inherited tree says John Stephen Jr. The couple match is very strong; the initial remains a question for the certificate.
Evidence:
School days in 1950
Separate notices report Carole and Jerrilyn arriving from Newark. A June report names Jerrilyn among Harding School kindergarten graduates. The class motto was Be Kind, its colors yellow and green, and its flower the daffodil. No child in the group photograph has been identified.
Evidence:
New: the family together in 1950
On April 11, 1950, John J. Swantek and Florence S. were at 738 Newark Avenue in Kenilworth with Carole H., seven, and Jerrilyn K., five. John drove a bus and reported forty-eight hours that week. His sample line reports World War II service; it supplies no branch, unit or combat history. The household reported living in a different house and county, Essex County, one year earlier. That strengthens the school notices describing the girls’ arrival from Newark without supplying an exact moving day. The source’s John J. remains beside the inherited Stephen; the full middle name is unresolved.
Evidence: E157
New: Ruth and the Horsch household
The April 8, 1950 Irvington census places Henry Schubiger, sixty-eight, and wife Mary, sixty-seven, with daughter Ruth A. Horsch, son-in-law Charles M. and granddaughter Patricia A. Charles assembled cigarette lighters, reporting fifty hours. The explicit relationships strengthen this family identification. Mary is retained beside the inherited Mamie Marie; the overwritten Springfield Avenue house number remains unresolved. Florence is not named on this page, so it does not by itself prove her parentage.
Evidence: E158
John’s service and the separate Lea lead
VA-derived burial data match John S. Swantek’s dates and list Marine Corps service, private, World War II, at the Doyle cemetery’s GN 426. Lea is recorded as his wife at the same site. This supplies a relationship lead without establishing a marriage sequence or replacing Florence. Unit, enlistment, discharge and combat history remain unproved.
Evidence: E211
